Burned out Fairmont Hotel on Nob Hill looms over San Francisco. This is Market Street, somewhere between Taylor and Jones streets. Construction of the six-story hotel was almost finished when the earthquake struck. Although the exterior of the Fairmont appears sound, the interior was badly damaged by the fire, and was rebuilt.
